THE TECHNOLOGY

The Mizuno Wave Skyrise 3, from first impressions, may look like your conventional, every-day, easy running option, however, this shoe has far more to offer. 

Recommended for runners spanning the full range of ability, from beginner runner to elite athlete, this shoe provides a safe option for easy mileage. The Wave Skyrise 3 has a strong focus on comfort and support, with heel to toe stack heights of 37mm and 29mm respectively – this has similarity to the HOKA Clifton notably credited for its cushioning and support. 

Consisting of dynamotion fit fabric, this flexible, adaptive and well-fitted upper, increases the comfort and support this shoe provides to the foot. Mizuno has also encompassed the XPOP PU foam into the midsole design. This consists of small beads which further enhances the cushioning upon impact. The foam is claimed to enhance the responsiveness of the shoe; however, upon reflection when wearing this shoe, this effect appears to be limited. 

Mizuno has an obvious focus on providing a well-ventilated shoe for the market – an aspect of mileage shoes that is often overlooked by many leading brands. The incorporation of an advanced ventilation system into this midsole layer, alongside the ventilated dynamotion fit fabric ensures optimal breathability and air flow throughout the foot during activity. Whilst not an obvious characteristic for most runners, I have personally found this a welcoming aspect of the design. 

HOW IT FEELS TO RUN IN THE MIZUNO WAVE SKYRISE 3

I have primarily been testing this shoe over easy running miles and have been struck by its comfort and reliability. The Wave Skyrise 3, with the level of cushioning incorporated into its design and technology, allows for an effortless easy running feel. I am really impressed by the level of comfort this shoe offers. It is a comfortable fit with an adequate level of grip for a variety of terrains. Running at a quicker speed does remain comfortable, however, lacks responsiveness and can feel a little sluggish. This shoe is quite clearly an easy running mileage option. 

The upper remains extremely flexible when running, therefore makes no strong effort to control or restrict the running gait and biomechanics of the individual, providing them with the freedom and control of foot impact and placement. For those more injury prone, a design implementing a more supportive upper may be preferable, however, this flexible and breathable upper prides itself on the level of comfort it provides. 

The Mizuno Wave Skyrise 3 is a welcome addition to the populated market of running shoes. Built for comfort, cushioning and support, the exterior design is refreshingly simple, with focus on the necessities for easy running. If you are looking for a reliable shoe that is suitable for easy running miles, the Mizuno Wave Skyrise 3 is certainly an option to consider.
